Best Hotels with a View in Bali

Bali is home to some of the most unique and gorgeous hotels we have ever stayed at. From bamboo houses and stunning views over rice terraces to incredible multi-tiered infinity pools, Bali really blew us away with hotels and resorts. It is one of the few places we have visited where we were equally excited about the views from our hotels as we were for the popular sites in the area.

One of the things we enjoyed most was just how peaceful each of these places were. Whether it was set in the jungle, beach, or mountains, each lodging accented the sounds of the surrounding natural environment, letting the rest of the world melt away. Bali is known for it’s relaxation and soul-centering energy and for us, a lot of that energy was fueled by the atmosphere of where we stayed each night. Service was impeccable with some spots offering private butler service and food was delicious (they were able to accommodate our paleo vegan diet). Staff even went the extra mile to set up things like romantic candlelit dinners, gorgeous flower baths, and sunrise floating breakfasts!

If your looking for somewhere to spend a honeymoon, enjoy a romantic getaway with your loved one, rejuvenate your soul, or simply see some of the most beautiful views in the world, be sure to check out these amazing hotels in Bali.

1.Munduk Moding PLantation, North Bali

Located in the northern region of Bali, Munduk Moding Plantation is an experience all of its own. We chose to stay here because of the amazing views and also the proximity to stunning waterfalls and other view points in northern Bali. Each of these attractions are within driving distance from Munduk Moding Plantation. The alternative to visiting these locations is traveling from a different part of Bali, which can take longer, and you may have to compete with crowds who tend to arrive later in the morning. Which is why we chose to stay up here.

Munduk Moding Plantation’s location alone is desirable because of its vicinity to the above mentioned sites, but we could have easily spent the majority of our time on the hotel grounds. What makes this hotel unique is its combination of infinity pools overlooking Bali’s great expanse. The pool views are stunning at sunrise and sunset, so we made sure to be there at both times on multiple days to experience the magic. Because the hotel is located at higher elevation, there tends to be mist/fog which can obstruct these views. But when the sun breaks through, it is truly a spectacle worth waiting for. There are actually 2 infinity pools in the main area (similar views but slightly different elevation). Our room also included a little infinity pool of its own, which was perfect for spending the day relaxing. One of our favorite things here was they had a fireplace inside, and we were able to chill out at night to the cackling of wood in the fire!

Munduk is not only a resort, but it is also a plantation and spa. Located on a coffee plantation, they offer a large variety of beans which are roasted and brewed fresh on site. If you are into coffee, this is definitely a plus! They also offer tours of the property so you can see how the coffee is harvested and made. The different spa, massage services, flower baths, and facials, can be nice after a long day of adventuring.

Our favorite part:

  • Sunset & sunrise at the infinity pools

  • In-suite fireplace

  • Plantation & gardens

Attractions close by:

  • Sekumpul Waterfall

  • Banymala Waterfall

  • Gitgit Waterfall

  • Wanagari Hiddens Hills / Twin Lakes

  • Ulun Danu Water Temple

2. Camaya, East Bali

Located on the rim of a small valley filled with rice terraces and palm trees, Camaya captures the quintessential dreamy Bali landscape. It is a hidden bamboo villa experience with a view across fields of rice paddies worked by the local farmers. Because this is an AirBnB, Camaya offers individual villas that you can have all to yourself, with a private pool, garden area, and of course, unobstructed outlook of the stunning landscape.

We chose to stay here because of the famous bamboo architecture and amazing views. It was nice because of its proximity to interesting places in east Bali, which traditionally can be hard to get to from any other part of the island. We could have easily spent our entire day relaxing by the pool and letting ourselves be swept up in the nature sounds that envelope this villa. We loved being able to open our bedroom curtains and see straight out into the secluded valley. What really impressed us with Camaya was the thoughtfulness of the architecture and also the gamelan instrument on the deck ;)

Even though it is an AirBnB, they still have a local chef on site that cooks you up fresh breakfast (and any other meal you want to eat there). There aren’t too many restaurants nearby, so we actually ate most of our meals on site and it was delicious. The menu includes authentic Indonesian dishes with plenty of options for variety of diets. Some of the villas even have their own kitchen so you could cook your own meals and really make it a home away from home!

Our favorite part:

  • View over the rice terraces

  • Hanging nets and relaxing nooks

  • Movie projector in the loft

Attractions close by:

  • Bukit Cinta

  • Tukad Cepung Waterfall

  • Lempuyang Temple

3. The Edge, Uluwatu

Called “The Edge” for a reason, this hotel boasts one of the best views of anywhere in Bali. We don’t think you can ask for a breakfast-in-pool view much better than this. Located on the southern tip of Bali on the Bukit Peninsula, The Edge offers a chic upscale villa experience with unobstructed views of one of Bali’s most beautiful assets: the ocean. The villas are private and we were fortunate to have a butler who doted on us for anything we needed. Aside from also having our own villa pool, we spent each morning having breakfast at the main pool with the famous view. Guests staying at The Edge have exclusive access to the main pool in the morning, and you can reserve times to have your breakfast in the pool without anyone else (yes, it’s a thing, and it’s amazing). The pools don’t become open to the public until late morning, so we were able to enjoy this spot for as much time as we liked.

In the surrounding area, Bukit Peninsula has some beautiful cliff views not too far from The Edge. By renting a scooter for the day, we had quick access to spots all around Uluwatu. You could definitely spend a few days exploring the peninsula and experiencing the stunning vistas.

Our favorite part:

  • Infinity pool and lagoons

  • Private spacious villas

  • Staff and service

Attractions close by:

  • Tegal Wangi Beach

  • Balangan Beach

  • Uluwatu Temple

  • Padang Padang Beach

  • Karang Boma Cliff

4. Villa Cella Bella, Ubud

This hidden gem is tucked back into the Bali jungle just 5 minutes from the heart of Ubud. We weren’t sure we were at the right spot until we stepped through the doorway revealing this secluded oasis. Villa Cella Bella is an AirBnB with communal space and restaurant (though we ate most of our meals in Ubud - cafes in Ubud are some of our favorite in the world!). The pool looks straight out over a ravine with a river and small waterfalls trailing off into the jungle. Sunrise is absolutely gorgeous here as you watch the sun climb up through the trees across the ravine. On site, there are a handful of fun photo opportunities, as you can see below (lotus nest, hanging netting, heart seat, copper bath, infinity pool etc.). The setup gives arivate enough feeling to cozy up and and enjoy one another’s company while still maintaining that open layout, communal feeling.

The location is just to the east of downtown Ubud. About 5 minutes drive from Ubud’s main drag, Villa Cella Bella was our home base for visiting a lot of the waterfalls and viewpoints in Ubud and surrounding areas. Ubud is probably our favorite place to stay in Bali, and Villa Cella Bella is close enough to enjoy Ubud, but removed enough where we could have some private time to just enjoy the serenity of nature.

Our favorite part:

  • Several cozy nooks and photo opportunities

  • Open layout

  • Boho chic decor

Attractions close by:

  • Tibumana Waterfall

  • Campuhan Ridge Walk

  • Monkey Forest

  • Ubud Central market

  • Tegallalang Rice Terrace

5. Adiwana Dara Ayu, Central Bali

The classic jungle get away in Bali, Adiwana Dara Ayu sits far away from any light pollution, car pollution, or even human pollution ;) This location is in the heart of Balinese jungle, quite literally in the center of Bali. This degree of separation really helped us to soak in the jungle vibes and appreciate the pristine quiet that Bali is known for. The infinity pools made for a gorgeous view at sunset overlooking the valley of rice terraces peppered with palm trees as far as the eye can see. It was such a fun property to explore with different tiered stairs and paths that lead to secret spots and cabanas around the resort.

Something to keep in mind is that on a map, the location may look minutes away from Leke Leke Waterfall and Nungnung waterfall, but given the topography of Bali, we had to drive about 1 hour to get to either site (which is still not bad, it just looks a lot closer on the map). The drive from Nungnung waterfall to Adiwana Dara Ayu was one of the most enchanted scooter rides we have ever taken. Reason being, the road cuts right through the countryside of Bali, winding through villages and rice terraces with sweeping vistas to boot. We didn’t see one other foreigner the whole time. After the ride, we both looked at each other and just started laughing because we could believe how magical it was.

Adiwana Dara Ayu also offers an open air spa set in some of the gardens which, after all the waterfall hikes, could not have felt better. It was relaxing to enjoy a massage tucked so remotely into the jungles of Bali, completely surrounded by birds, nature, and the scents of flowers.

Our favorite part:

  • Multi-tiered layout

  • Remote location

  • Outdoor garden spa

Attractions close by:

  • Leke Leke Waterfall

  • Nungnung Waterfall

  • Ubud

6. Adiwana Bee house, Ubud

Located just outside of Ubud, this cluster of beehive-looking villas is nestled in the heart of sweeping rice terraces. Tucked away from the noise of cars and scooters, Adiwana Bee House is the perfect spot to settle in and enjoy the vast expanse of rice terraces. Whether at sunrise, sunset, and even in the noonday sun, this spot provides picturesque views at every turn. We found the mornings to be most peaceful. As the hotel only accommodates a handful of guests at any given time, you are likely to have some nice time to yourself to connect with nature. Something really fun about this place, was they offered a picnic in the middle of the terraces where we watched the wind blow through the rice fields creating ripples like waves in the ocean.

The location is just to the east of central Ubud. We used this spot as a hub location for visiting many of the sites nearby. Ubud is probably our favorite place to stay in Bali because of all the hip healthy cafes, boho chic boutiques, and one-of-a-kind jewelry stores. We found Adiwana Bee House to be close enough to enjoy Ubud, but removed enough where we could have some private time to just enjoy the views of the terraces.

Our favorite part:

  • Unique beehive shaped bungalows

  • Intimate property

  • Picnic lunch in the rice terraces

Attractions close by:

  • Tibumana Waterfall

  • Campuhan Ridge Walk

  • Monkey Forest

  • Ubud Central market

  • Tegallalang Rice Terrace

7. Own Villa, Canggu

Tucked into the heart of Canggu, Own Villa offers an eco oasis with unique architecture and fantastic accommodation. The buildings have a north Sumatra influence and each one is custom designed with its own special flavor. The configuration mirrors that of a small village hidden in the jungle. This blend of Sumatran structures with Balinese hospitality provides an unmatched experience that we would love to come back to again and again. Only a couple of villas are available, maintaining a secluded and intimate vibe that we really enjoyed. We spent mornings relaxing by the pool and eating a special floating breakfast. The whole place is quiet and very tranquil, and the staff were extremely helpful with anything we needed.

Located close to the main drag in Canggu, we were able to hop on a scooter and explore the different cafes and shops that Canggu is known for. Canggu has become a real hot spot for foodies, creatives, and unique boutiques and shops similar to Ubud. But Canggu has more of a beach and surfer vibe versus the jungle yoga feel of Ubud. Other guests have stayed here for their entire trip to Bali and would plan day trips to other parts of the island, which is also an option to travelers that prefer to stay in one place.

Our favorite part:

  • Pool front villas

  • Glass and open air style interior

  • Home away from home feel

Attractions close by:

  • Hit up a beach or pool club

  • Surf at popular beaches (Batu Balong Beach, Berawa Beach, Echo Beach)

  • Pura Tanah Lot Temple

  • Enjoy some of the cafes and shops (Canggu is a health food haven with a bohemian and hipster vibe)

8. Jannata Resort & Spa, North Ubud

Located just north of Ubud, Jannata Resort & Spa was built with an appreciation for incredible views. Each room has its own unobstructed view of the gorgeous jungle valley. Watching the sunrise burn off the lingering mist and reveal the expansive rice terraces was definitely a highlight each day. There are trails that meander through the jungle leading us to our villa with private pool. We spent just as much time at the larger tiered infinity pools because the views were each special in their own way. One evening we even had a romantic candle light dinner at one of the infinity pools overlooking the jungle as the sunset colored the sky. Another special part of our stay here was the on-site spa. They offer a unique citrus flower bath that smelled just as refreshing as it felt. We could easily stay here for an entire week with all the activities and programs they have available at this boutique resort.

As we mentioned previously, we LOVE Ubud. And Jannata Resort & Spa is situated perfectly to access Ubud and surrounding sites. The resort provides a special shuttle service to the main area of Ubud, but we opted to rent a scooter to have more freedom to explore different areas.

Our favorite part:

  • Romantic candlelit dinner at the infinity pool

  • Citrus bath in the jungle spa

  • Multi-tiered infinity pools and private villa plunge pools

Attractions close by:

  • Tibumana Waterfall

  • Campuhan Ridge Walk

  • Monkey Forest

  • Ubud Central market

  • Tegallalang Rice Terrace

9. Pondok Santi Estate, Gili TRawangan

Located on an ancient coconut plantation, Ponduk Santi Estate is found at the secluded southern tip of Gili Trawangan (one of the Gili Islands). It really is a perfect getaway spot with gorgeous views. The island of Gili Trawangan (“Gili T”) actually doesn’t have any motorized vehicles, so the air is fresh and the noise is reduced to the wind in the palms and the crashing of waves on the sand. The Estate includes access to its own private beach right in front of the accommodation, including views of Lombok, the other Gili Islands, and most importantly, some very very blue water. The exclusive beach area comprises of comfy day beds, hammocks, towels, and refreshments to order. This really was the ideal escape for us.

Pondok Santi Estate provided bikes for us to use as we explored around the island. Check out our post here about the beaches of Bali including Gili Islands with things to do and how to get there. Because it was so secluded, we really took in a lot of time to just be and relax under the palm trees. The Gili Islands are known for their gorgeous waters both above and below, so be sure to look into some sort of diving or snorkeling excursion if you have a chance! Ponduk Santi has their own private boat that you can reserve for day or sunset cruises which is perfect for seeing the reefs below as well as the incredible mountains of Lombok and the other surrounding Gili Islands.

Our favorite part:

  • Beachfront location to one of the island’s best beaches

  • Private boat tour

  • Spacious villas with private garden, outdoor shower and plunge pool

Attractions close by:

  • Gili Trawangan beaches

  • Gili Meno Statues

  • Turtle bay and other dive spots in Gili Islands

  • Gili Trawangan night market and nightly live concerts

Before you Go:

Arrangements:

  • Special Meal Arrangements: Many of the hotels offer special romantic arrangements for breakfast, lunch or dinner. This can be a really memorable romantic experience that you can’t get anywhere else in the world. If you want to do this though, be sure to talk to the hotel in advance because many times they only have one terrace or bungalow available, so can only accommodate one couple per night.

  • Coordinate Airport Pick-up Beforehand: You don’t want to have to scramble at the airport. Whether it’s the hotel shuttle or your own private driver, this will likely be cheaper than a cab at the airport.

Transportation:

In Bali there are a few transportation options for getting to & from the airport, transferring between hotels and exploring the island:

  • Hire a driver : If you are traveling with luggage, you will want to use a driver to take you from the airport and to the site. Many of the sites will be able to arrange this for you, but at an extra cost (depending on where you are coming from/how long the drive). You can also arrange for your own driver, which may be a good idea if you are going to be hopping from a few different hotels while on the island. Most drivers communicate via WhatsApp.

  • Rent a motorbike: This is a great option for getting around the island after you arrived at your hotel, but not for traveling between hotels. Most accommodations can help to arrange the rental. If you have not driven a motorbike before, Balinese traffic can be difficult to navigate. Rental will likely cost between $5-$7 USD per day.

  • Uber and GoJek: These are services gaining popularity in Bali, and can be nice for a cheaper ride. We used this a few times in getting between hotels but it isn’t available everywhere. We would not recommend using these services for going to lookout spots or attractions. Due to certain restrictions, they may be able to drop you off at a location but will not be able to pick you up.

photography Tips:

  • Shoot Main Areas at Sunrise : If you are going to be photographing any of the main areas such as pool front, viewpoints or gardens, try going at sunrise as you will likely have the whole place to yourself. Not only will this make for better photos, but you won’t have to compete with other guests trying to “get the same shot”.

  • Drone: If you want fly the drone be sure to seek permission from your accommodation in advance. In an effort to maintain privacy and the tranquility of their unique locations, many resorts will have a set hours of when you can and cannot fly.

Bali was one of our all time favorite islands in Indonesia! If you have any questions please let us know and we’d love to help!
